Principal's Message
At UWC, we educate for today and for posterity– Education is life itself. It’s the early morning discussion that turns into a debate on social justice; not just a random topic in the Global Politics class, but deliberate thoughts and discourses on global issues that have both near and far reaching impacts on our everyday lives.
It’s the after school music ensemble that brings together strangers turned associates from across continents; reveling in sounds and spaces for a shared artistic experience-touching our very souls in communion with one another . It’s the laughter echoing in diverse languages; each unique, each special, each an embodiment of culture and its power in the face of difference, and it’s the silence shared in deep reflection. Reflection on our purpose – why we do what we do – who we are – and how we respond to the world around us. At UWC, we don’t just teach students – we invite them to co-create a world worth living in.
What makes a UWC education unique is neither just our commitment to academic excellence, nor just the diversity of our community. What makes it truly transformative is how we live and learn – through coexisting together with intention, embracing our differences, and striving for a future that values people and planet over power and profit.
Here, students don’t just acquire knowledge, they apply it. They don’t just dream of change, they enact it. Every learning opportunity is linked to action, every conversation holds potential for empathy, and every project is grounded in purpose (we go beyond simple community service). Our classrooms stretch far beyond walls- into communities, across other hills, cultures, to causes that matter.
As principal, I have the daily privilege of witnessing courage, curiosity, and compassion come alive. I see students challenging assumptions, self-advocating, crossing borders (real and imagined), and growing into the kind of leaders the world urgently needs – not only bold and brilliant, but kind and collaborative; seeking peace.
This is not an education of comfort. It is an education of challenge – of asking difficult questions, confronting uncomfortable truths and growing in unexpected directions. But it is, above all, an education of hope.
Welcome to WK UWCSA. Welcome to a place where education is the most powerfulforce for peace and a sustainable future – because here, we live that belief, every single day. In solidarity and inspiration.
Jackie Otula, Principal.
