Latest Stories - A Lovely Soccer Tournament!
A total of 24 soccer teams participated in the 10th edition of the Dick and Enid Eyeington tournament which was played on Waterford campus on Saturday 21st July 2018.
It was a great sunny day and both
men and women teams, including Waterford alumni, students, staff and friends of
the school, played in the tournament. At the end, Hawane and Swazi MTN came
first in the men and women tournaments respectively. Speaking during the
presentation at the end of the tournament, Waterford’s deputy principal (pastoral) Donovan King thanks all the teams for participating in this year’s
tournament. “Lastly, congratulations to the winners,” he said.
Dick and Enid Eyeington joined the Waterford
family in 1971 as a geography teacher and school nurse respectively. They
worked at the school for the next 24 years, during which Dick became the Head
of the Geography department, Deputy Headmaster and ultimately he was appointed
the Headmaster in 1984. As Dick rose in the ranks, he continued to be an avid
football player and coach. Enid was very involved in the community that
Waterford is situated in. By 1993, Enid was counseling and educating those
infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and introducing home based care systems in
Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).
The 7 a-side football tournament
is in the honour of these two brilliant souls who helped shape education and
healthcare not only in Eswatini, but in multiple African countries as well.
