On Saturday the 16th
of June 2018, Waterford held a music concert as part of the UWC Africa Week
activities.
The concert took place at the
school’s amphitheater with an enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed the several
performances that took place. The concert was not only limited to musical
performances as there were dances such as gumboot and Burundian dances,
choreographed and performed by Waterford’s students.
It was during the gumboot dance performance when Africa Week’s
keynote speaker, Mrs. Graça Machel, arrived. The concert continued, with
vibrant marimba and band performances. Various Waterford bands performed
African songs. Additionally, Waterford’s choir comprised of students and teachers
performed a number of African songs, their singing continuing to highlight the
beauty of the school community.
The concert ended with Waterford’s Deeply Rooted Sounds, a Jazz band, performing a famous African song. Their beautiful rendition of the song marked the end of this term’s music concert.
