Academic Programmes
The academic programme at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa follows three phases. Our medium of instruction is English.
Form 1, 2 and 3 students follow a comprehensive programme designed to expose them to a wide range of subjects. In Form 3, some subject choices are made, but wide ranges of courses remain compulsory for all students. Form 3 WK Students need to apply for the Form 4 class. Form 4 and 5 students follow the Cambridge International Examinations Board examination, called the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). Students in this two-year phase take between six and ten subjects.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme is the school’s most senior phase. This is a two-year course leading to the IB Diploma or IB Certificate. Students choose six subjects for the full diploma programme.

Equivalence
- Our Form 1 year is equivalent to Grade 7 in South Africa
- Our Form 4 year is equivalent to Grade 10 in South Africa
- The two-year International Baccalaureate is equivalent to a South African matric plus a “post-matric” year
