Academic Programmes
The academic programme at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa follows three phases. Our medium of instruction is English.
Form 1, 2 and 3 students follow
a comprehensive programme designed to expose them to a wide range of subjects.
This philosophy is continued into Form 3 where some choices are made but
a wide range of courses remain compulsory for all students. See the lower school subject booklet.
Students in Form 4 and 5
follow the Cambridge International Examinations Board examination called
the International General Certificate of Secondary Eduation (IGCSE).
This is a two year course and students take between 6 and 10 subjects. See the IGCSE subject booklet.
The most senior phase of the school is the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. This is a two year course
leading to the IB Diploma or Certificate. Students choose 6 subjects
for the full diploma programme. See the IB subject booklet.
Equivalence
- Our Form 1 year is equivalent to South African Grade 7
- Our Form 4 year is the equivalent to South Africa Grade10
- The International Baccalaureate is a two year course and is equivalent to South African Matric plus a 'post-matric' year.
