Waterford's 50th Anniversary
Fifty years ago, 16 boys, a handful of staff and a huge weight of expectation marked the opening of the first multi-racial school in Southern Africa. Waterford school was based on what for many people, and many years, seemed an unattainable dream- that different races could live and study together. 50 years on, Michael Stern's assertion that 'the only thing we are proving is that there is nothing to prove' has been vindicated time and time again.
2013 is not just a year for parties and celebrations, it is a year to remember what Waterford has achieved, what obstacles it has overcome and what every person who passed through here in the past 50 years has learned- that there's something a little bit special about this school.
With this in mind, we have planned events and reunions which are also a little bit special. More details of those events will come in February. For now however, please sign up to our reunions in June and August to return to the campus which gave us all so much.
Alumni Reunions
We have allocated weekends to decade groups, so you can enjoy being back with the group you were first at WK with! The weekend allocations are as followed:
June 28th to 30th: 2000-2012
August 9th to 11th: 1963-1979
August 16th to 18th: 1980-1989
August 23rd to 25th: 1990-1999
Hostels on campus will be made available for accommodation on a first come, first serve basis during the weekend reunions. The reunion week will consist of a weekend of events on campus, followed by an optional community service project through the following week.
We have done our best to take into consideration the lifestyles and seasons of both the northern and southern hemispheres. We sincerely hope to see the majority of our alumni come back for this monumental occasion.
